Leaf a Legacy Art Pieces
If you missed the opportunity to enjoy these beautiful leaf sculptures – you still have a chance! Abilities First has available several of these fine art pieces available for sale. These are individual works created by local Hudson Valley artists using molded fiberglass maple leaves measuring 4 feet high by 3 feet wide by 15 inches deep. They were created as a public art project, launched in 2010, to raise awareness and support of people with disabilities served by the nonprofit organization, Abilities First. The maple leaf was chosen to represent the Hudson Valley's widely loved fall foliage and the official state tree of New York, the sugar maple.
Community leaders, artists and businesses have praised these public art projects for their many benefits. Fun and whimsical, these figures have proven to be an excellent way to inspire civic pride, celebrate community, and highlight the talent and diversity of local artists. Abilities First chose the figure of a maple leaf to represent the Hudson Valley’s widely loved fall foliage and the sugar maple tree, the official state tree of New York. The four-foot maple leaves have been painted and decorated by local artists.
All proceeds from the Leaf a Legacy project will support children and adults with disabilities served by Abilities First, Inc. a not-for-profit organization that provides educational, vocational, therapeutic, and residential services for approximately 1,200 people with developmental disabilities in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York.
